In 1983 Yaakov Amsalem was discharged from active duty as a pilot in the IDF air force. at the beginning of September of that year he established the travel agency “Amsalem Tours” in his hometown Tiberias. a year later, Yaakov’s younger brother, Eliezer, is discharged from the army as a combat engineering officer and joins Yaakov as an equal partner.
Starting from the first day, they define the service concept of the company: excellence in all, human relations as a supreme value, joy of life and love, integrity and transparency, teamwork and partnership for success. The two begin to develop inbound and outbound tourism and specialize in trips by groups in the ultra-Orthodox sector, for example, for the Lubavitcher Rebbe community in Brooklyn.
At the same time, the Amsalem brothers are developing the field of organized and geographic tours, and the company is growing at an impressive pace.
In 1991 he founded a new travel agency and the rumor flooded the country!
In 1994 the company purchases the building in which its office is located and moves from the basement level to the fifth floor. In 1998, the decision was made to turn the building into a hotel, following the forecasts of the incoming bloussom tourism and the Pope’s arrival in Israel. The hotel opens in 1999 and is called Terminal Palace.
In 2001, the decision was made to change the name of the hotel to “Dona Gracia”. The deeper meaning of the name becomes clear to Yaakovlater when he meets with Zvika Schiejak, a local historian who presents the history and heritage of the woman whose name was chosen to be displayed on the front of the hotel. Today the hotel serves as a museum and a heritage center for the commemoration of Dona Gracia’s contribution to the city of Tiberias, attracting many tourists from around the world and residents of Israel.
